The Scunthorpe Central Mosque is in the heart of Scunthorpe, a diverse town with a rich culture, and home to the largest Muslim community in North Lincolnshire. The mosque was established in 1981 as Esha-tul Quran Islamia Madrassah (EQIM) and Madani Mosque with its humble beginning from a converted terraced house.
As the congregation grew the first extension programme at the mosque took place in 1987, with a rear extension to the existing property. By the turn of the century, in response to the growing Muslim community, we embarked on a second extension programme in 2001 by purchasing the neighbouring property. In 2011 the mosque underwent an extensive refurbishment which involved the purchase of another property, incorporating two prayer halls, study area, office, kitchen with full catering facilities, and purpose built dome and minarets. The mosque boasts to be the first one of its kind in this region with these features.
The primary purpose of the Mosque is to provide religious and spiritual guidance including leading the five daily prayers and the weekly Jummah not to mention the Eid prayers, Nikkah (marriages) and assistance with Funeral services too. It is our belief that our primary concern should be to serve the needs of the local Muslim community and to work towards the common good for all. In recent years the Mosque has started to play a noticeable role in providing information on education, health provision, environment, community issues to build a cohesive and tolerant foundation for our community.
The complete day to day running of the mosque is by volunteers headed by the Imam. Their responsibilities include finance, maintenance, events, education and worship. Anyone can volunteer, feel free to contact the Imaam if you would like to be involved.
